The human ear, an organ of hearing and equilibrium that detects and analyzes sounds by transduction ( or the conversion of sound waves into electrochemical impulses) and maintains the sense of balance How the ear works is sound waves are gathered by the outer ear and sent down the ear canal to the eardrum. The sound waves cause the eardrum to vibrate, which sets the three tiny bones in the middle ear into motion. the motion of the bones causes the fluid in the inner ear or cochlea to move. Our ears play a crucial role in how we communicate with those around us. They are responsible for hearing and our sense of balance. When your ears aren't functioning properly, you can experience an array of symptoms: including hearing loss, cognitive decline, balance issues, and delayed speech processing The Eustachian tube, or Pharyngotympanic tube, in the middle ear equalizes air pressure in the middle ear with the air pressure in the atmosphere. This process helps humans retain their balance. The vestibular complex, in the inner ear, is also important to balance because it contains receptors that regulate a sense of equilibrium. The inner ear is connected to the vestibulocochlear nerve, which carries sound and equilibrium information to the brain. Ears are delicate organs that can often have problems due to damage, bacteria or even changes in the environment. Ear infections: commonly seen in babies and younger children, common symptoms of ear infections are drainage from the ear, , hearing loss, ear ache, fever, headaches, pain in the ear and a feeling of fullness in the ear. Meniere's disease: a disease of the inner ear that may result of fluid problems in the ear. Symptoms include: hearing loss, pressure or pain, dizziness, and tinnitus (Tinnitus is aa roaring in the ears caused by loud noises, medicines or a variety of other causes)

Pericarditis refers to inflammation of the pericardium, two thin layers of a sac-like tissue that surround the heart, hold it in place and help it work. A small amount of fluid keeps the layers separate so that there’s no friction between them. A common symptom of pericarditis is chest pain, caused by the sac’s layers becoming inflamed and possibly rubbing against the heart. It may feel like pain from a heart attack Pericarditis can be attributed to several factors, including viral, bacterial, fungal and other infections. Other possible causes of pericarditis include heart attack or heart surgery, other medical conditions, injuries and medications. Pericarditis can be acute, meaning it happens suddenly and typically doesn’t last long. Or the condition may be "chronic," meaning that it develops over time and may take longer to treat. Both types of pericarditis can disrupt your heart’s normal rhythm or function. In rare cases, pericarditis can have very serious consequences, even leading to death. Other names for Pericarditis are: Idiopathic pericarditis (no known cause) Acute pericarditis Chronic pericarditis Chronic effusive pericarditis and chronic constrictive pericarditis (forms of chronic pericarditis) Recurrent pericarditis The cause of pericarditis is often unknown, though viral infections are a common cause. Pericarditis often occurs after a respiratory infection. Chronic, or recurring pericarditis is usually the result of autoimmune disorders such as lupus, scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis. These are disorders in which the body’s immune system makes antibodies that mistakenly attack the body’s tissues or cells. Other possible causes of pericarditis are: Heart attack and heart surgery Kidney failure, HIV/AIDS, cancer, tuberculosis and other health problems Injuries from accidents or radiation therapy Certain medicines, like phenytoin (an anti-seizure medicine), warfarin and heparin (both blood-thinning medicines), and procainamide (a medicine to treat irregular heartbeats) Pericarditis affects people of all ages, but men 20 to 50 years old are more likely to develop pericarditis than others. Among those treated for acute pericarditis, 15 to 30 percent may experience the condition again, with a small number eventually developing chronic pericarditis. Most of the time, pericarditis is mild and clears up on its own with rest or simple treatment. Sometimes, more intense treatment is needed to prevent complications. Recovery from pericarditis may take a few days to weeks or even months.

Meditation is the practice where an individual uses a technique such as mindfulness, focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity- to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. Mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and chronic stress are prevalent in United States, and are considered serious health condition along side heart disease, cancer and asthma. Integrative and holistic mind body practices such as yoga and mindfulness meditation have become increasingly popular and beneficial as well when it comes to psychological and physical health issues. In fact, yoga and meditation are considered stress reduction techniques that can influence how we relate to mental and physical issues, ultimately leading to less suffering and attachment to life outcomes. Types of Meditation 1. Mindfulness meditation: this kind of meditation trains you to focus on what you are thinking or feeling at the moment. You can concentrate on your thoughts, feelings, or sensations. *This type of meditation helps with getting better sleep, making progress towards goals, lowers stress levels, gets rid of temporary negative feelings, improve attention span, and helps to prevent depression relapse. 2. Loving kindness meditation: one of the most prominent meditation styles, this type allows you to focus on your energy to feel the warmth of love, kindness, and other positive feelings *During this type of meditation, you focus benevolent and loving energy towards yourself and others. It can take a lot of practice , and sometimes it leads to resistance since the average person is not used to this level of giving and receiving love. 3. Transcendental Meditation: This meditation technique promotes a state of relaxation by helping you avoid distracting thoughts and feelings. *This type of meditation reduces stress and anxiety, greatly improves sleep, gives you a greater sense of clarity and productivity, can help lower blood pressure, gives you a greater sense of calmness throughout the day, reduces cortisol, lower risk of heart attack and stroke, and helps improve brain function and memory 4. Zen Meditation: this is the practice of preparing your body and mind to be calm in order to open yourself up to exploring the nature of your being. *The benefits of this meditation is it helps calm your nervous system, meditation is a very effective way to bring our brain waves into a deeply calming and relaxing alpha wave state. It also helps you focus your energy, optimizes you circulatory system, and helps boost your immune system! Meditation is linked with feeling less stressed as well as actually lowering the stress hormone cortisol. It can result in brain changes that protect against mental health conditions, and help us process emotions even when we're not actively meditating. Meditation can also help the elderly feel less lonely and reduce genes linked to inflammation, while also having a link with decrease cigarette, alcohol, and drug abuse. We experience less anxiety as meditation loosens connections to particular neural pathways, with rapid memory recall improvements.

Essential oils are basically plant extracts. They're made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves or fruit) to capture the compounds that produce fragrance. It can take several pounds of a plant to produce a single bottle of essential oil. In addition to creating scent, essential oils perform other functions in plants, too. Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit. Aromatherapy has been used for centuries. When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact the amygdala, the emotional center of the brain. Essential oils can also be absorbed by the skin. A massage therapist might add a drop or two of wintergreen to oil to help relax tight muscles during a rubdown. A skincare company may add lavender to bath salts to create a soothing soak. Although people claim essential oils are natural remedies for a number of ailments, there's not enough research to determine their effectiveness in human health. Results of lab studies are promising — one at Johns Hopkins found that certain essential oils could kill a type of Lyme bacteria better than antibiotics — but results in human clinical trials are mixed. Some studies indicate that there's a benefit to using essential oils while others show no improvement in symptoms. Clinical trials have looked at whether essential oils can alleviate conditions such as: *Anxiety *Depression *Nausea *Insomnia *Low appetite *Dry mouth The safest ways to use essential oils include: Aromatherapy accessories: Necklaces, bracelets and keychains made with absorbent materials you apply essential oils to and sniff throughout the day. Body oil: A mixture of essential oils with a carrier oil such as olive, jojoba or coconut oil that can be massaged into skin. Because essential oils are concentrated, they can cause irritation. Avoid using them full-strength on skin. Aroma stick: Also called an essential oil inhaler, these portable plastic sticks have an absorbent wick that soaks up essential oil. They come with a cover to keep the scent under wraps until you're ready.

Sciatica is a term used to describe nerve pain in the leg that is caused by irritation and/or compression of the sciatic nerve. Sciatica originates in the lower back, radiates deep into the buttock, and travels down the leg. The symptoms of sciatica are commonly felt along the path of the large sciatic nerve. Sciatica is often characterized by one or more of the following features: Pain. Sciatica pain is typically felt like a constant burning sensation or a shooting pain starting in the lower back or buttock and radiating down the front or back of the thigh and leg and/or feet. Numbness. Sciatica pain may be accompanied by numbness in the back of the leg. Sometimes, tingling and/or weakness may also be present. One-sided symptoms. Sciatica typically affects one leg. The condition often results in a feeling of heaviness in the affected leg.1 Rarely, both legs may be affected together. Posture induced symptoms. Sciatica symptoms may feel worse while sitting, trying to stand up, bending the spine forward, twisting the spine, lying down, and/or while coughing. The symptoms may be relieved by walking or applying a heat pack over the rear pelvic region. It is advisable to treat sciatica as early as possible in order to avoid the progression of symptoms.
